Board Align Sessions '09 Report

Sessions 09 was the first Free Riding contest to be run in South Africa. The concept was about allowing the riders to showcase their talents and abilities within the broad spectrum of the sport.
DC Shoe Co built an insane roof top rail, also the first of its kind in the country, where certain riders totally annihilated the rest of the field… 270’ on 270’ off, Backlip 360’ out, backside 3,s over the spine, to name but a few of the tricks that were laid down. Devon Nassif and Brian Loggenberg battled it out for best trick over the roof top with Devon just squeezing out the win over Brian with his smooth consistent “I fear nothing” final session on Sunday.
The Mastercraft X-Star was loaded to the max, throwing a massive wake, where Shaun Facio proved his dominance as a boat rider stomping Toe & Heel 7’s, a Toe 9 and an impressive front Mobe 5 beating 3 time junior world champion Morgan Krause with his huge arsenal of Mobes and Spins. Clayton Krause, Brian Loggenberg, Matt Lammers, Kevin Dry and Devon Nassif all brought a different flavour to the contest with Whirly 5’s, Petes, 7’s, KGB’s, Method Moby Dicks & Blind Judges. The level of riding was intense. Kevin Dry took best Double-Up session with a big Olay Heel 5 and floaty Toeside 5.
Matty Buys took top honours in the wakeskate division making Kickflips and big spins look like child’s play. He also cleaned up in the best crash category by coming up short on the DC roof top rail… really short!
The most promising rider went to Dylan Mitchel, the Junior Men’s SA champ, for his all round performance on the wakeboard and wakeskate. Dylan and Brian are definitely two of South Africa’s top “up & coming” riders so you can expect to see great things from these guys in the near future.
The weekend wrapped up with all the riders voting for the rider they believed deserved the title of “Sessions 09 Overall Winner”. This was awarded to Devon Nassif.
The prizes were sponsored by Oneill, DC Shoe Co, Electric Sunglasses, Eastpack, Casa Toscana Ristorante & Sands International. Redbull was responsible for keeping the party going all weekend long and they achieved this with a great line-up of DJ’s and Redbull “on-tap”
The Sessions 09 was a hit amongst all involved and everyone is highly anticipating another great event in the near future. The entire event was captured on high definition video so we can look forward to the final production being aired on national television early in 2010.
Boardalign wakeboarding would like to thank all riders and sponsors involved, without your support Sessions 09 would not have been possible.
